Offcut — Cut Layout Optimizer Last updated: May 14, 2026
Overview
Offcut is a local-first utility app that helps woodworkers optimize cut layouts for sheet materials. Your privacy matters to us — this policy explains what data Offcut collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.
1. Data We Collect
Offcut does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers owned or operated by us.
All project data (sheets, pieces, layouts, settings) is stored locally on your device using Apple’s SwiftData framework.
1.1 Data You Provide
When you use Offcut, the following data is created and stored locally on your device:
- Project names, dimensions, and cut list data you enter
- Sheet material dimensions and quantities
- Tool profile selections and settings
- App preferences (unit system, default kerf, etc.)
This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly share it (see Section 3) or enable iCloud Sync (see Section 1.3).
1.2 iCloud Sync (Optional)
If you enable the “iCloud Sync” option in Settings, your project data is synced to your private iCloud container using Apple’s CloudKit framework. This means:
- Your data is stored in Apple’s iCloud infrastructure, encrypted and accessible only to your Apple Account.
- Data syncs across all your devices signed into the same iCloud account.
- We do not have access to your iCloud data — it is managed entirely by Apple.
- You can disable iCloud Sync at any time in app Settings; data remains local only.
- Your app preferences (unit system, theme, font size) sync automatically across devices via Apple’s iCloud Key-Value Store regardless of the data sync toggle.
iCloud data is governed by Apple’s iCloud Terms and Privacy Policy.
1.3 In-App Purchases
Offcut offers optional paid features via Apple’s App Store. Purchase transactions are processed entirely by Apple and governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. We do not receive your payment information. We receive only a confirmation from Apple’s StoreKit framework that a purchase has been made, which is stored locally on your device to unlock features.
1.4 App Store Diagnostics
If you opt in to sharing analytics with Apple, Apple may collect anonymous usage and diagnostic data about the app. This is governed by Apple’s privacy policy and is not accessible to us. You can control this in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
2. Data We Do NOT Collect
- No account registration or login required
- No analytics or usage tracking by us
- No crash reporting to third-party services
- No advertising identifiers (IDFA or IDFV)
- No location data
- No contacts, photos, microphone, or camera access
- No network requests to our servers of any kind
- Network activity is limited to Apple’s StoreKit (in-app purchases) and Apple’s CloudKit (if iCloud Sync is enabled) — both handled entirely by Apple
- No behavioral profiling or cross-app tracking
3. Data Sharing
Offcut only shares data when you explicitly initiate a share action:
- PDF Export: When you tap the export/share button, a PDF is generated locally on your device and presented through Apple’s standard share sheet. You control where the PDF goes (AirDrop, Files, email, Messages, etc.).
- CSV Export: If you export a cut list as CSV, it is generated locally and shared via the system share sheet under your control.
No data is shared automatically or in the background.
4. Third-Party Services
Offcut does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data-collection SDKs. The only external services involved are:
| Service | Purpose | Governed By |
|---|---|---|
| Apple App Store | App distribution & in-app purchases | Apple Privacy Policy |
| Apple iCloud / CloudKit | Optional project sync (if enabled by user) | Apple iCloud Terms |
5. Data Retention and Deletion
All data stored by Offcut resides on your device. You have full control:
- Delete a project: Permanently removes that project’s data from your device.
- Delete the app: Removes all local app data from your device permanently.
- Reset all data: You can clear all local app data from within the app Settings screen.
- iCloud data: If iCloud Sync was enabled, your data may persist in iCloud. You can manage iCloud storage via Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Manage Storage on your device.
We do not retain any copies of your data on our servers because we do not have access to it.
6. Children’s Privacy
Offcut is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app does not require any personal information to function. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through our app, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
7. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights including:
California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete personal information, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. Offcut does not sell personal information. Since we do not collect personal data, most CCPA requests are not applicable. For any questions, contact us at the email below.
European Residents (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation including the right to access, rectify, or erase your personal data, and the right to data portability. Since all data is stored locally on your device and we do not process your personal data, you can exercise these rights directly by managing or deleting the app. For questions, contact us at the email below.
Other Jurisdictions
We respect applicable privacy laws in all jurisdictions. If you have questions about your rights, contact us.
8. Security
All data is stored using Apple’s built-in secure storage mechanisms (SwiftData with device encryption). Your device passcode and Face ID/Touch ID protect access to your data.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app or applicable law. Changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date at the top of this document. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For material changes, we will provide notice through the app or App Store release notes.
